Did You Find a Lost or Stray Animal?
Or have you lost your pet?
What to do when you find a lost or stray dog:
- Your safety should always come first. Do not attempt to handle a stray animal. Call the Animal Control Officer for town the dog is found in.
- Do not transport the dog to another town.
- Strays brought to us will be vaccinated at the owner’s expense.
- Dogs cannot be returned to owners without proof of current rabies vaccination and license per New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets regulations.
- Please keep your dogs up to date on rabies vaccine & license or it will delay return to owner.
What to do when you find a lost or stray cat:
- Some jurisdictions provide animal control services for cats; some do not. Check with your animal control officer and call the shelter if your jurisdiction does not provide services.
- Stray cats (not ferals) may be brought in as space allows. Please call us to check for availability.
- Strays brought to us will be vaccinated at the owner’s expense.
