Staff: Stacie Purvis is requesting another 4 week, unpaid medical leave. This will take place in early -mid September and I am in the process of exploring options for recruiting a substitute.
Building: The drains on the construction side of the building have been functioning poorly. A section was damaged during the site prep. The operations committee has been informed of this issue.
Kennel Run Doors: many doors in the main shelter are literally falling apart & are unsafe for both the animals & Staff. John Sleeper has offered his services & is researching rebuilding & replacement costs.
Emergency Secondary Shelter: After a call from a Potsdam resident in need of surrendering 17 dogs & an ACO report of a possible cruelty case involving 5 dogs,we have been loaned the use of the Moonlight Kennels. Owner Fred Mayer is donating the use of the space & the cost of electricity. NCC Systems has installed a security camera at no charge. All cleaning & care of the animals is being done by volunteers at this time. Fred has offered to allow us use of the facility for as long as we need it. I would like to close the operation by early October so we do not impose on Fred or incur heating costs. This facility is not open to the public and currently houses 1 adult female with eight 2 week old pups, 1 female with 5 five six week old pups and a litter of six eight week old pups. I also move owner surrendered dogs in various stages of evaluation in & out of the facility as needed to keep open runs available for animal control at the main shelter.
