PHS BOARD MINUTES October 19, 2010

Members Present: Bonnie, Jackie, Ruth, Cindy, Linda, Amber, Irene, Helen, Tony, Lucille, Jane, Anne, guests Tim and Cathy Connolly.

Meeting called to order at: 5:38 PM

Guests Tim and Cathy Connolly presented their proposal for Best Friends Thrift shop run by the Connollys. The location will be in the Creative Spirit Gallery adjacent to The Tile Store in Potsdam. Tim hopes to have it ready to go by the 1st of December. The Grand Opening would be December 4, the weekend of Chamber of Commerce Holiday sales. Details of the proposal were emailed to Board members. Lucille made a motion to accept the proposal, Cindy seconded. Motion passed unanimously. The items can begin to be donated November 1.

Staff Report: Anne reported that Stacey Purvis has resigned. Liz Azar has replaced her. The furnace in the nursery is out; temporarily have a heater on loan to us from Jan Morgan. Lots of dogs, no empty runs, foster homes are saving the animals. Average cost to keep an animal per day at PHS is $15. Anne reported that she sent out the survey letter to area vets. NYS is changing licensing responsibilities from shelter to towns/villages. Anne is investigating possibilities of managing this switch. Build a Bear grant was received for $1500.

Minutes of September meeting were motioned to approve by Amber, Seconded by Irene. Motion passed.

Treasurers’ report by Irene & Helen. September Operating Income was $17,203.70 and expenses were $26,824.88. Capital Income was $3,086.80 and expenses were $319.00. Thus far we are right on target with 3/4 of year, have spent 74.5% of budget. Helen mentioned that we need to raise $54,422.17. Motion to accept Treasurers’ report by Cindy, seconded by Tony motion passed.

Fundraising report: Raffle on Borderline Quilt is going very well, have raised over $200 thus far. November 20 & 27 St. Lawrence Center mall has space for the quilt and could sell tickets there, need people to volunteer to staff ticket sales table on these two days.. $2 for one, $5 for 3 tickets. There is also a wine basket raffle. Bonnie met with Tim Cary from Pine St. Arena with others (Fourth Coast Entertainment) regarding music festival April 23, 2011 at Pine Street. Community Day is November 13 at Bon Ton. The coupon books are $5 and that entire amount goes to shelter. Julian’s is still doing their fundraising card, and is planning on doing another mystery dinner theater perhaps in Canton in March.

Personnel/Operations: discussed letter from Canton Animal Clinic of May 10, 2010. Decided that the response letter Bonnie had written in October (and not mailed) would not be mailed. Board will take the Dr. Bancroft’s letter under advisement.

Public Relations: Lucille reported about Make a Difference Day at Gouverneur CS, Thrift Store, Ribbon Cutting ceremony either October 26 or November 2, Tardelli’s would like to advertise PHS on their menu but there is $200 fee, we will explore this.

Amber discussed holiday gathering to honor volunteers December 14 at Sergi’s. This could also be a time to recognize area businesses that are good to us.
