Animal Cruelty
The Potsdam Humane Society's mission includes ensuring that
animals in our service area are treated with compassion and
care. To this end, we understand that the process for addressing
animal cruelty cases in St. Lawrence County is seriously broken
and requires community involvement, in conjunction with
support from our locally elected officials, County Sheriff's
Department and our County's District Attorney.
The Potsdam Humane Society has approached our St. Lawrence
County Legislators to request that an Advisor Board be estab-
lished which will contain community members, legislative
representative(s), and representatives from the Sheriff's office
and the District Attorney's Office. The legislative board voted
unanimously at committee to establish this advisory board.
However, the process for setting this up has been delayed.
You can help ensure that this Advisory Committee is established
and given the support it deserves, please fill our the BioData
sheet below and return it to Karen St. Hillaire at the 48 Court St.,
Canton, NY, 13617 to express your interest in participating in
this process and/or contact YOUR County Legislator and express
your opinion about the importance of addressing animal cruelty
in our communities. A link below will take you to the list of
County Legislators. If you are unsure which District you are in
you can contact the Board of Legislator's office at 315/379-2276
to request this information.

Spay/Neuter Assistance
Spay/Neuter/Now:
Spay/Neuter/Now is a non profit organization dedicated to
reducing the pet overpopulation problem in the North Country.
SNN introduced a voucher program to help persons on low,
fixed income and seniors with the cost of spay/neuter surgery.
Voucher surgeries are performed by veterinarians who accept
SNN vouchers, subtract them from the cost of the surgery and
the client pays the difference. It translates into a discount on
the procedure. You may apply by calling Spay/Neuter/Now @
(315) 324-5969.
